The #Blacklivesmatter movement has advanced the elevation of White interest groups which could polarize college campuses resulting in limiting the progress to eliminate racism. The repercussions of such polarization will drastically impact the future viability of the economy and all involved. White interest groups need only to promote positive racial relationships to improve the economy and quality of life for all.
According to the article, White interest group perpetuates racism, social media websites have become inundated with White student unions that have provided a platform for expression. In particular, one such group named UT Autin claims to “welcome all students of European descent and allies to engage in an open dialog about our shared interests.”
Facebook post have resulted in comments that reveal the extremist position that is considered detrimental to ethnic groups. For example, one White interest group at UT Austin laments that after the terror attacks, France will either have to war against Islamic influences or become more accepting of Islamic traditions. In another post, the group supports the deportation of 11.3 million undocumented people. In another post, the group criticized an educator for structuring lesson plans centered on the subject of historical diversity designed to elevate Black students, which the group conclude demoralizes White children. The viewpoints of the White interest group are extreme.
What could be the outcome for White interest groups that operate in an extreme continuum?
One such extremist was Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was an Austrian-born German politician who was the leader of the Nazi Party (NSDAP). He was the Chancellor of Germany from 1933 to 1945, and Führer (“leader”) of Nazi Germany from 1934 to 1945 as well as the dictator of Nazi Germany, and was at the center of World War II in Europe and the Holocaust.
His political views are consistent with the White interest groups. Black people in Nazi Germany were never subjected to the same mass extermination as the Poles, Jews, and Romani. However, they were considered by the Nazis to be an inferior race and along with Romani people, were subject to the Nuremberg Laws.
The Nuremberg Laws were designed to control Jews, Romani people and Black people. They were introduced on 15 September 1935 by the Reichstag at a special meeting convened at the annual Nuremberg Rally of the Nazi Party (NSDAP). The two laws were the Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honour, which forbade marriages and extramarital intercourse between Jews and Germans and the employment of German females under 45 in Jewish households. The Reich Citizenship Law declared that only those of German or related blood were eligible to be Reich citizens. Instead of following the fate of Adolf Hitler, the White interest groups would have greater success by promoting positive racial relationships.
Positive racial relationships include the absence of negative interactions for which it appears that the White interest group has become proficient. Negative criticism, embarrassment, and humiliation are the most frequent acts that damage any type of relationship.
Since the White interest group and representatives of #Blacklivesmatter have visions at the opposite end of the spectrum, it becomes the best starting point. They would begin by developing a shared vision.
A shared vision is what the White interest group and the #Blacklivesmatter would want to accomplish as an organization. A shared vision is not imposed by one or a few people as an organizational mandate. It is derived from the members of both sides by creating common interests and a sense of shared purpose for all future organizational activities.
The process for developing a shared vision for the two polarized organizations can become complicated. Avoiding this complication will require using several instruments to address the polarized group dynamics. Finally, after developing the shared vision, the White interest groups and the #Blacklivesmatter organization would develop a strategic plan for promoting positive racial relationships.
