The Philadelphia Eagles continue to operate under the cloud of Chip Kelly racism. Since the football team has sustained one win it appears that the allegations of racism have subsided. Chip Kelly racism will never sustain a winning team due to the division that continues to permeate on the team.
Chip Kelly racism began with the trade of several high talented Black football stars. It has been noted that the Philadelphia Eagles had one of the Whitest teams in football for the 2014 season. It appears that the 2015 Philadelphia Eagle team will remain one of the Whitest teams in the NFL with twenty-one White football players. This is an increase from the previous year.
In 2014, the Philadelphia Eagles finished 2nd in the NFC East Division, they were third in the NFL for total points scored (474 points). They were 22nd in the NFL for points allowed (400 points). It will be difficult for the Philadelphia Eagles to either maintain or increase with the looming Chip Kelly racism that has impacted the culture of the football team.
Why will Chip Kelly racism have a devastating impact on the Philadelphia Eagles 2015 season?
One way that Chip Kelly racism will impact the Philadelphia Eagles is talent wise. The organization itself will make more money because they are not delving out as much money as the previous years. With the removal of prominent Black players, the player payroll will have a significant decrease. With that significant financial decrease there will also be a significant decrease in talent.
“In this world, you get what you pay for (Kurt Vonnegut).” The Philadelphia Eagles in their effort to validate Chip Kelly racism have opted to employ subpar players. Subpar players will provide subpar results. This became very evident during the first Dallas Cowboys game. With wide receiver Dez Bryant not suiting up for the game and Tony Romo getting hurt during their game, the Philadelphia Eagles managed to lose the game that they should have won.
Chip Kelly racism will impact the player attitudes. Racism has an impact on job satisfaction, motivation, commitment, loyalty, and future recruitment. Racism impacts job satisfaction because when a player continues to see player such as Riley Cooper get rewarded for his racism they are less likely to perform at an optimum level. Players are less likely to be loyal and once they have established themselves and have an opportunity to leave the organization they will take their talented services to another football team. This action will become prominent because they will feel that there is no future with the Philadelphia Eagles that resulted from Chip Kelly racism. This is evident by trading some of the most talented Black players in the organization.
How can the Philadelphia Eagles render the effects of Chip Kelly racism ineffective?
One alternative for the Philadelphia Eagles is to fire the coach. The coach is responsible for player control as well as developing the game plan. The coach is responsible for player preparation too.
Another alternative is to continue the pattern of Chip Kelly racism that is now prominent with the Philadelphia Eagles. As long as the team wins, fans will endorse the efforts of Chip Kelly racism. But when they begin to lose, then the fans, the news, and the public will want Chip Kelly and his staff hung.
A final alternative is to use Chip Kelly racism as an opportunity for the Philadelphia Eagles to grow together. Several Black players on the team have voiced their support for the coach. It appears that this sentiment may be reserved for a few of the Black players. The other Black players may appreciate the opportunity that has been afforded to them but cannot wait until another opportunity presents itself for them to leave. They may become some of the most productive players in the league but the may never feel that they trust the coach because of the racial allegations.
The Philadelphia Eagles can overcome the adverse effects associated with Chip Kelly racism by promoting positive racial relationships.
