In a recent article by Joe Nocera, New York Times, he discusses the importance of providing teachers with training before they officially step into the classroom. Several recent books such as Paul Tough’s book, “How Children Succeed,” “The Smartest Kids in the World,” by Amanda Ripley, and Elizabeth Green’s “Building a Better Teacher: How Teaching Works (and How to Teach It to Everyone), seem to reveal that improving student achievement is isolated to improving teacher skills. Education reformers and teachers union disagree on how to improve student performance in the classroom. Many reformers focus on accountability while teacher’s unions focus on autonomy. None of these proposed solutions takes into account how the school culture dictates Pertcrism.
In retrospect, from a percentage perspective, the only students who are products of the American education system that have challenges are Black students. What reformers fail to address is how the school culture dictates Pertcrism which ultimately impacts the behavior of both new and experienced teachers.
The best way to eliminate a school culture that dictates Pertcrism (Perpetual Tradition of Classroom Racism) is by a process that promotes positive racial teacher-student classroom relationships. When a school promotes positive racial teacher-student classroom relationships then the school culture shifts towards enhancing the education of all students by Elcloomism.
